Postino Osteria slips effortlessly into the historic shell of Summer Hill’s former post office - retaining its bones, but rewriting the story with a dose of Italian soul and inner-west edge. The design nods to Northern Italy’s grand old osterias but reframes it through a local, lived-in lens.
Limewashed walls and gloss-painted mahogany panelling wrap the dining room in deep, moody warmth. Crimson carpets and upholstery in rich pheasant tones add softness, while antique brass lighting and striped banquettes bring the kind of detail that feels both familiar and considered. A pigeonhole wine wall hints cheekily at the building’s postal past.
Upstairs, things take a turn - walnut panelling, flying duck wallpaper, and illustrated fabrics create a space that’s layered and lush, never overdone. The private dining room, affectionately called The Green Room, dials up the drama: olive walls, leafy ceilings, floral upholstery and a burlwood table under the soft glow of Murano glass. Every element sits confidently, unapologetically, in its place.
Postino is as much about atmosphere as it is appetite - rich in texture, bold in palette, and instinctively nostalgic.
